Good article. I hate the whole unlimited concept. I think its plain as simple. If you use something as a selling point, you need to be able to provide it to customers. If you can't provide it (in this case because its impossible), then you shouldn't use it as a selling point.

Wow, that makes no sense at all, they must have orders of magnitudes higher CPU usage and storage concerns by letting all that spam through than by blocking it in the first place!

NO BLUEHOST!

I have been with them since 2006 & recently they have been nothing but problems! I found this post while searching for a new hosting company and couldn't resist putting in my two cents.

1. I had too many files on the server and had to delete some or my account would be deleted in 14 days. (not allowed over 50,000 files which includes individual email files)

2. I had too many SQL Databases & they SHUT DOWN MY SITE WITHOUT EVEN CONTACTING ME! (I don't remember how many I had, but it was less than 50). They claimed that I had "too many tables".

I only host 5 websites one of which is an online store and the others are just very basic Joomla sites. Two of which I don't even use.

I'm leaving Bluehost as soon as I find a new hosting company & if Hostgator is the same company... NOT going there either!

If Bluehost is going to treat a customer of FIVE YEARS without ANY I mean NO problems prior to a couple of months ago the way that I have been treated... I can only imagine how they are going to treat others!

I'm open to suggestions on other hosting companies... Thanks...

Response to Andy's comment from May 10, 2009. I thought this discussion about finding a good web host or avoiding a poor one, not bashing someone else's belief. Your btw comment was inappropriate.

One of my husbands clients had the same problem. In the early days (6 years ago) - they outsourced shared hosting for their clients. They used BlueHost.com and loved them for the price, control panel, customer service, and so called unlimited resources. It wasn't until they shut down the client's website for using "too much" cpu that he realized he was putting a lot at stake. They now offer their own hosting starting at $39.95/mo and their customers are glad to pay it knowing they will talk to familiar voices as well as receive communication if they outgrow their hosting plan. Reality is there is NO such thing as unlimited hosting for $6.95/mo. If you think you can get that - it's a scam. They will eventually boot you off their server if you grow anything larger then a hobby site of family blog. Too bad their not up front about it. It truly is dishonest on Bluehosts part.

The Bluehost forum is a joke. If you bring up anything which maybe construed as remotely less than positive about Bluehost, the moderators always shout,

“This is a user to user forum – not Bluehost Support. You will have to contact them directly for information on your account.”

The Bluehost forum sucks! The moderators are very rude and way to overbearing. There is no freedom to discuss any real problems about any issues on the forum.

Bluehost service sucks! No matter what the problem is. It is never their fault.

Bluehost servers suck! My server goes down all the time leaving my web site dead.

The throttling at Bluehost sucks! It will bring your site to a crawl with the least amount of traffic. The throttling at Bluehost is good for Bluehost but not for the client.

The email at Bluehost sucks! I have been informed on several occasions where an email was sent, but I never received it.

Bluehost just plain sucks! If I would of only found this place a year ago, it would have saved me a lot of grief and aggravation.

Granted a large site like that should have never chosen a shared hosting plan but contrary all hosts should be more forefront with their clients about what can be expected from a shared account.
